Holy Name Medical Center is Hiring a Central Sterile Technician Near Teaneck, NJ

Job Title: Central Sterile Technician
Department: Sterile Processing
Position Summary: Processes and provides clean and sterilized supplies and equipment for patient use.
Requirements:
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent is desirable.
Experience: Experience in Central Sterile Department preferred.
Certification: Certified as Central Sterile Technician.
Essential Functions of the Job:
  • Performs all Central Sterile Technician responsibilities as necessary.
  • Performance expectation and achievement goals are met demonstrated by satisfactory completion of Central Sterile competencies.
  • Is knowledgeable of, understands, follows and monitors staff compliance to regulations for Central Sterile practice as described in AAMI, NJDOH, CDC, EPA, FDA and OSHA documents.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of Infection Control principles and procedures regarding appropriate PPE use, hand washing, personal hygiene, dress code, traffic flow and aseptic technique. Acts as a resource for Central Sterile staff compliance of Infection Prevention Practices.
  • Demonstrates a knowledge of sterilization methods, cycles, loading, unloading, cycle changing, cautions and codes. Utilizes quality assurance sterilization tools such as air removal tests, biological tests, external and internal chemical indicators, machine gauge readings and printouts. Appropriate documentation is maintained. Is a sterilization knowledge resource for Central Sterile staff. Assures that appropriate action is taken when cycle performance is in question.
  • Understands, follows and monitors staff compliance to specific procedures for decontamination and high level disinfection practices as well as the assembly, restocking and distribution of specialty carts.
  • Handles loaner instrumentation following and documenting specific procedures from receipt to release back to lender. Is staff resource for loaner instrumentation information.
  • Monitors correct handling of implantable devices according to manufacturer's instructions, biological/load record documentation, results and release information.
  • Assures manufacturer's instructions are available for staff and utilized for disassembly, cleaning, disinfection, assembly and sterilization for re-usable items being reprocessed.
  • Understands and follows procedure for the identifying the need for and initiating the repair process of instrumentation, processing equipment and patient care equipment.
  • Maintains adequate par level of all supplies and equipment.
  • Routinely uses policy and procedure manuals and other available reference materials to ensure consistency and accuracy.
  • Assists with the orientation and training of all department personnel through the development and implementation of the Central Sterile training program and maintains documentation.
  • Evaluates formally and informally the performance of Central Sterile Technicians.
  • Monitors workload and delegates work assignments to ensure procedures are completed in a timely fashion and the needs of all departments are met.
  • Acts as a liaison between Operating Room and CSS anticipating, avoiding and/or interactively handling instrumentation and reprocessing issues.
  • Assists the Central Sterile Manager in long-term and short-term goals of the department, in accordance with current standards of practice and HNMC’s Mission.
  • Assists Central Sterile Manager with preventative maintenance programs for instruments and equipment.
  • Responsible for performing all other duties as assigned.
